Here is a quick guide of how to use Angelus paint properly on multiple surfaces. The painting process is usually the same but the prep or additives may change depending on the material.

Leather – Shoes, Sneakers, Clothing, Furniture, and More 

1. Prep by wiping down leather with leather preparer using our applicators, cotton balls, or a rag.
2. Wait for leather to dry a few minutes. Wipe down with microfiber towel to remove all lint.
3. Paint with 3-5 light layers of Angelus Paint. Make sure to leave to dry 15-30 minutes between layers. *PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR NEON COLORS REQUIRE A BASE COLOR OF A SIMILAR SHADE BEFORE APPLICATION*
4. Leave to dry for 24-48 hours. Be careful of flying lint or debris getting on the shoe to avoid imperfections. The more time cured the better.
5. If you want to add extra protection or change the sheen (Flat, Satin, Glossy, Matte) of the shoe use our 4-Coat Clear Coat 1-2 layers on top.

Canvas & Denim – Shoes, Clothing, Actual Art Canvases, and More

1. Prep by cleaning the surface with a cleaning product like our Angelus Easy Cleaner Kit. It is necessary to get all the oils and dirt that may be sitting in or on the canvas.
2. Make sure there is adequate dry time and that you wipe off and get all the cleaner out.
3. (Optional) If you want to make the paint soak in and not be as rubbery textured on canvas we suggest using our product 2-Soft mixed with our paint. You can paint Angelus paint directly on canvas without it but it just will feel more like a screen print then part of the shoe.
4. Paint with 3-5 light layers of Angelus Paint. Make sure to leave to dry 15-30 minutes between layers. *PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR NEON COLORS REQUIRE A BASE COLOR OF A SIMILAR SHADE BEFORE APPLICATION*
5. Leave to dry.
6. (Optional) No added protection is really needed as the paint has soaked into the canvas. If you want to change the sheen to a matte or glossy look instead we do suggest our 4-Coat Clear Coat.

Patent Leather – Plastic or Vinyl Shoes, Heels, Clothes, Furniture, and More

(Airbrush Suggested instead of Paint Brush)

1. Prep by wiping down leather with leather preparer using our applicators, cotton balls, or a rag.
2. For better adhesion we suggest sanding down with Angelus high grit (800,1500) to give the paint somewhere to stick better. Patent leather is extremely smooth plastic and it needs to be properly prepped.
3. Wipe down lightly with leather preparer again with a microfiber of some kind to remove all the lint and debris from sanding. Be very thorough as shiny patent will show any imperfections.
4. (Optional)Use an adhesion promoter made for vinyl/plastic. This will help the pores of the material absorb the paint better. Usually sanding will be plenty but if you want to go over the top for adhesion we suggest it. A popular one we do not sell on our site is BullDog Adhesion Promoter. Make sure to not mix up with Adhesive as you will accidentally spray glue on your item.
5. Paint with 3-5 light layers of Angelus Paint. Make sure to leave to dry 15-30 minutes between layers. *PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR NEON COLORS REQUIRE A BASE COLOR OF A SIMILAR SHADE BEFORE APPLICATION*
6. (Optional)If you are doing a very glossy patent leather we would highly suggest air brushing instead of paint brushing. Paint brushing is difficult to get completely smooth on an extremely glossy patent-like finish. If only a paintbrush is available a heat gun can help level the layers. Just be careful to not burn the paint or shoe.
7. Use Angelus 4-Coat High Gloss to bring the glossiness back to a patent shine with a few layers.
8. Leave to dry and somewhere where lint or floating debris will not hit during the drying process.
